“A Cathedral in Sound”

A huge hit at its 1894 premiere in Prague, Emil von Reznicek’s comic opera Donna Diana is remembered chiefly for its sparkling overture. Concerto for Harp, Woodwinds and Orchestra by Paul Hindemith features a small instrumental ensemble in concert with a small chamber orchestra. The result is one of Hindemith’s wittiest and most charming scores, capped by a finale that features one of classical music’s silliest jokes.
