Compagnie La Calebasse was founded by dancer-choreographer Merlin Nyakim in 2001. The company’s dancers hail from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and France and their choreography is an exciting mix of African and Afro-contemporary styles—exuberant, earthy, and joyful. For their first UW World Series appearance, they will perform the work that launched the company, Recreation Primitive.
